Matthew 9: 27-31 – ‘According to your faith it will be done to you.’
In their distress and anguish the blind men cried out in their heartfelt prayer, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’ (Matthew 9:27). Their affliction and suffering made them acutely aware to a certain darkness or fatigue, because of fear, distress, uncertainty and confusion. In this condition and state we can easily be disenchanted, even cynical, and lose interest and enthusiasm for our faith. Then we lack joy and hope in living the Christian life. The Holy Spirit can revive and renew us in our faith but like the blind men we too need to cry out, ‘Have mercy on us, O Lord.’ In Christ our joy is born anew.
